Nice to meet you.

My real name is John…or so they tell me.

To begin my life with the beginning of my life, I record that I was born (as I have been informed and believe) on a
Saturday, at nine o'clock at night. It was remarked that the clock began to strike, and I began to cry,
simultaneously.

That part about the clock's not true, by the way. I was actually born on September 21, 1985, my grandpa's
birthday (same day, different year). I wasn't breathing those first few minutes, so the doctor, who had the flu at the
time, had to resuscitate me. That part is true.

I don't remember much about my early life, and you probably aren't interested, anyway. My dad was a minister for
twenty-one years or so, so we moved around a lot. I've lived in several different parts of Indiana (that's in the
United States) and Kentucky (also in the US). Right now, I'm in Indiana.

My mother schooled me at home for the first few years, but by the end of the fourth grade, I was in a local private
school. I was addicted to reading at an early age. One of my childhood favorites was the epic romance No Girls
Allowed
by Stan & Jan Berenstain.

I was also addicted to video games at an early age. I grew up watching The Super Mario Brothers Super Show
(I'm still watching it…does that mean I'm still growing up?) I spent a whole summer beating The Legend of Zelda:
Link's Awakening
. I know most of the secrets from Super Mario Brothers 3. During my Senior Trip to New
York in 2003, I played Game and Watch Gallery 4 on our cruise past Staten Island instead of looking at the
Statue of Liberty (okay, I did glance up out of curiosity).

After graduating with honors, I started going to the local branch of IU (Indiana University). I'm in my fourth year,
majoring in English, and I plan to pursue a doctorate, or at least an MA.

Like many aspiring authors, I've had several different novels in the works over the years, although the Zelda novel
was the first to be finished and the one I've worked on the most. I've written and performed a few short plays and
several poems on the side, mostly at church.

As far as my other credentials go, I worked on the student newspaper for two years, first as a Staff Reporter, then
as the Entertainment Editor (this was at IU), and I've received A's in all of my English courses so far, along with the
compliments of my professors, one of whom taught at Cornell for several years. Last year, I was on the Dean's
List, and this year, I was selected as Student of the Week by one of my professors (that sounds like a lot of
bragging, but an unpublished author needs all the help he can get!)

So…with a few minor details left out, that brings us to the present. I hope we know each other a little better now.

Oh, by the way! I've had the chance to meet several of my favorite authors over the last few years, most of whom
I'm pictured with here. I was never disappointed by their reception.
